Cynthia Swan-Eagan

Cynthia Swan-Eagan has been teaching at Manistee High School since 1982. She received her Bachelors of Music in Music Education and Bassoon Performance from Western Michigan University, and her Masters of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. She currently serves as the First Past President of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, also serving on the Music Selection Committee of that organization. She is the Chairman of the Board of the Michigan Music Conference, and was recently elected National President Elect of the American School Band Director’s Association. In addition, she is the Secretary of the ASBDA Foundation, a charitable foundation funding programs furthering band music education research and programs for educators. She is an active adjudicator for solo & ensemble and band & orchestra evaluations around Michigan, and is an active guest lecturer, clinician and conductor. For two years she was the director of the West Central Concert Band at Ferris State University, in the summer is on the conducting staff at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and has been a guest speaker/teacher at Western Michigan University, for the MSBOA Survival Camp, Elementary & Middle Level Workshop, Adjudication Workshop and the Midwestern Conference on School Vocal and Instrumental Workshop. Under her direction, the Manistee High School Band has performed for numerous Michigan and national level conventions of music educators. Mrs. Swan-Eagan was nationally recognized by Chamber Music America for outstanding chamber music teaching, and in 2000 was elected by her peers as Michigan’s Band Teacher of the Year.
