Mr. Mencarelli is a graduate of Western Michigan University (WMU) where he specialized in History, English and Special Education for the Emotionally Impaired. Continuing with his education, Mr. Mencarelli is a graduate and trustee of the Third Coast Writing Project of Western Michigan University.

He has taught in the Kalamazoo Public School system (KPS) for 15 years. before coming here to Manistee. Representing the Kalamazoo Public School System, he has presented at the October Engfest, a writing conference for teachers sponsored by WMU, and at the Michigan Teachers of English annual conference in Lansing as well as organizing and presenting a writing workshop for Berrien Springs Public School System. Mr. Mencarelli currently teaches 9th grade English and Video Production.

Mr. Mencarelli is also active in the community. A past member of the PEG Channel 2 Public Access, he has given much of his time recording and presenting programs of local interest on Channel 2. He is a member of both the Lions of Manistee and the Manistee County Democratic Party. He and his family worship at the People’s Church of Ludington. His hobbies included skiing (downhill and cross country), drumming (African), caving, and backpacking. He is married with two sons.
