The first week of practice for Middle School football will begin on Aug. 26th, at 6 PM. All practices that week will be at 6 PM, Kennedy field - physicals must be on file. |

Youth Softball Summer Camp |

All area girls grades 3-12 are invited to attend a two-day summer softball camp June 27 and 28 at Manistee High School from 10am to noon. Players will work with area high school coaches to improve their softball skills. Points of emphasis will include: fielding, throwing, catching, pitching, batting, and base running, beginner to advanced. Participants will need to provide their own gloves, appropriate practice clothes, and footwear (sneakers or cleats). The cost is $10 for both days with payment in advance, $12 if paid on the day of the camp. This is a great opportunity for your junior athlete to develop into a better softball player. MAPS Early College Program |

|
Manistee Area Public Schools, in conjunction with West Shore Community College, has been awarded an Early College Program from the Michigan Department of Education. The focus of the program is to provide students with a career interest in Business, Management, Marketing and Technology field the opportunity to extend high school for another year in order to earn an associates degree or an equivalent number of college transferrable credits. The MAPS EC Program is planning to start with its first class of incoming Juniors in the fall of 2013. For students, this program could mean two years of college at West Shore Community College with virtually no tuition or textbook fees. It will also provide students with direct access to many of the college services, such as scholarship and financial aid awareness, career counseling, and tutoring services. Students may earn an associate’s degrees or certification in the following business fields:
Accounting - Computers for Business - Network Services - Management Skills -
Marketing/Management - Medical Office Information Systems - Office Information Systems

The MMHS Summer Session takes place Monday through Thursday starting Monday, June 10 and ending Thursday, July 11. Each day is divided into three sessions. Session one begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 10:00 a.m. Session two begins at 10:30 a.m. and ends at noon. Session three begins at 12:30 p.m. and ends at 2:00 p.m. Click below for additional information and application.

MHS Forensics @ the Michigan Interscholastic Forensics Association's State Championship
Schools at meet: ALL QUALIFYING CLASS B-C-D Schools (23 in all)
This past weekend the Manistee High School Forensics Team competed in their State Championship at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. 285 Students from 23 Class B-C-D schools in 14 Categories competed for the honor of being the MIFA State Champ. Your strong and talented Chippewas performed in upwards of 6 times in 7 different categories over the course of two days for the chance to claim the title of State Champ in their respective category. The competition at the State level is fierce and even cutting into a Semi-Final Round awards you a plaque; and the top six finalists for the state are recognized with a trophy. Callahan DeCillis (sophomore) competed in Dramatic Interpretation, Michael Stypa (sophomore) competed in Oratory Speaking, Graham Fischer (sophomore) competed in Informative Speaking, Brad Madsen (sophomore) competed in Broadcasting, Jessie Switalski (senior) competed in Poetry Interpretation, Niki Kirkwood (freshman) competed in Storytelling 9/10, and Maggie Perkins and Savanna Weber (both sophomores) competed in Duo Interpretation.
RESULTS:
- 20th Place (out of 22) Poetry - Jessie Switalski
- 20th Place (out of 22) Oratory - Michael Stypa
- 19th Place (out of 22) Informative - Graham Fischer
- 16th Place (out of 26) Dramatic Interpretation - Callahan DeCillis
- 15th Place (out of 19) Broadcasting - Brad Madsen
- 11th Place (out of 25) Storytelling - Niki Kirkwood (MIFA State Semi-Finalist)
- 6th Place (out of 23) Duo - Maggie Perkins and Savanna Weber (MIFA State Finalist and 6th Place Trophy)
Manistee High School Team placed 14th Place out of 23 B-C-D Schools
Manistee High School Forensics is coached by Rod Oden and assisted by Breanna Miller and Eric Thuemmel.

CETUSA is looking for families to host a wonderful selection of high school students from around the globe. Your school receives full state funding for each student, families earn tax credits and gain a lifelong friendship to share with their children and grandchildren. Wolverine Tutors |

MAPS has the opportunity to work with tutors from the University of Michigan.
You may obtain additional information and watch a video that the tutors have put together by visiting: www.WolverineTutors.org
Wolverine Tutors will be setting up an “Online Writing Lab” where the tutors will assist with student’s writing and critique student essays. The tutors will communicate with the students via g-chat, Skype, and Google Groups. |
