Manistee MS/HS is happy to announce we will be holding County Wide Physical Night on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the Manistee MS/HS from 5:30 - 7:00pm. Student's wanting to participate in an extra curricular sport next school year 2012 - 2013 have to have a current physical (dated after April 15. 2012) on file per MHSAA rules.

This is a great way to have your physical done before activities begin in August.

Physical consent forms are available in the MS/HS Office. Dr. Anhalt is our lead Physician.

CETUSA is looking for families to host a wonderful selection of high school students from around the globe. Your school receives full state funding for each student, families earn tax credits and gain a lifelong friendship to share with their children and grandchildren. Students bring their own money for expenses, families provide meals at home and a bed which can be in a shared bedroom. MAPS has the opportunity to work with tutors from the University of Michigan. A tutor will be visiting MAPS during the week of February 25th. The exact date and time will be announced shortly. They will be bringing brochures and/or additional information to be shared.

Wolverine Tutors will be setting up an “Online Writing Lab” where the tutors will assist with student’s writing and critique student essays. The tutors will communicate with the students via g-chat, Skype, and Google Groups.

The Manistee County Community Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for the 2012/2013 academic year. The application deadline is March 1, 2012. New this year is an Online General Application form that makes it easier for students to apply; a single form allows applicants to be considered for multiple scholarships. There may be additional application requirements for some scholarships. Paper applications will no longer be accepted.

Interested applicants should review the eligibility, selection criteria, and all application requirements, which vary by scholarship fund, on the Foundation’s website at www.manisteefoundation.org/receive/scholarships. Applicants must be a Manistee County resident or graduating senior at a Manistee County school. Manistee County Community Foundation Board of Trustees, staff, and their family members are not eligible to apply.

To apply, complete the Online General Application on the Manistee County Community Foundation website. Applicants will be asked to register with E-grant before beginning their scholarship application.

1.    Each year, public school students in grades 3-9 take the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) test and 11th graders take the Michigan Merit Exam (MME).
2.    The Michigan State Board of Education recently approved new MEAP and MME “cut scores” for Mathematics, Reading, Science and Social Studies. A cut score is the score that separates test takers into various categories, such as advanced, proficient, partially proficient and not proficient.
3.    The new cut scores are higher and “raise the bar” for our students. They are intended to be a better measure of student progress toward being career and college ready.
4.    While we anticipate an initial decline in the number of students reported as “proficient,” we are confident this change will be temporary due to ongoing school improvement efforts and student support.
5.    If your student is reported as “not proficient,” it does not mean that your student isn't gaining academic skills or is falling behind. It means that on the day of the test, your student was not yet proficient on the material being tested. Several other measures are used in our district throughout the year to insure that your student is making academic progress.

We maintain high standards for our students and their test scores are consistently among the highest in the state. We anticipate this trend will continue even with the new cut scores.

We have been very pleased to see the number of accidental damage repairs drop since switching to the Apple computers. The machines are more durable and the clear Speck cases provide an added measure of protection for the machines. Unfortunately when the machines do get damaged, the cost to repair them is higher than with the Dell laptops. This in tandem with the common increase in accidental damage to the laptops over the Holiday break means that now may be a very good time to add a rider on your home owners insurance to cover accidental damage to the PowerLearning laptop assigned to your student(s). The cost is typically fairly low (less than $30/year) with less than a $100 deductible. Most insurance providers need to know the model of the computer (Apple MacBook 13.3"/2.4-CTO/4GB) and the cost of the machine ($1,069).

Beginning on August 22, we will be changing the method that parents will use to log into PowerSchool.

PARENTS: We have enabled a new feature called Single Sign On (SSO). If you have not created your SSO account yet, please do so by clicking "Create Account" above. You will be asked to use your login information from last year for each student to connect to your account. Once created, you'll never need those again. Each parent/family member can now make seperate accounts to access information for each student they wish to view using a username and password of your choosing. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your building's administration.

Due to federal mandates full paid student lunches will increase $0.10 for 2011-12 school year. Breakfast prices will remain the same. Student breakfast prices are $1.00 for full paid and $0.30 for reduced. Student lunch prices are $1.85 for full paid and $0.40 for reduced. We have also adopted a "NO CHANGE POLICY". For example: If a student brings in a $5.00 bill their lunch account will be charged for their purchases and the $5.00 will be deposited into their account. This will help speed up the line, eliminate having large amounts of change on hand and there will be less chance for error. Students may purchase a second lunch entree for $1.75 and extra milk for $0.50. Please be reminded that there is a "3 lunch charge" policy. Any student who owes for more than three lunches will be given the option of our "overdrawn" lunch choice.

Meal Magic allows parents to process fee and reduced applications on-line. Log on to www.lunchapp.com and follow the instructions. Meal Magic also allows parents to set up an account to check student balances and see what they are purchasing. Log on to https://meals.honoredstudents.org/mealmagic/mylunchaccount/.
